When employees are decommissioned due to changes in corporate management or operations, don’t forget that public employment service institutions provide various services ,including unemployment counseling, employment consultation, and vocational training to help unemployees reemployed.

51-year-old A-Wu originally worked as an assistant manager at a marketplace. After being laid off last year, he went to Tainan Employment Center Division of Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan of the Workforce Development Agency, MOL, to apply for unemployment benefits. During employment counseling, the consultant evaluated the work experience and professional capability of A-Wu. A-Wu had majored in mechanics while in school, and had worked as a welder after graduation. During his tenure as marketplace supervisor, he often guided customers in using mechanical tools. He is no stranger to welding and mechanical utilization, yet he worried that employers might require a technical certificate. In addition, his former proficiency may not be able to meet the contemporary job requirements. Therefore, he applied for TIG welding training sessions, and received a TIG welding certificate. A-Wu was soon employed due to his improved capabilities from employment training and past work experience.

The Workforce Development Agency advises that after being laid off, one may apply for unemployment confirmation at public employment service institutions. Those who meet the requirements of the Enforcement Rules of the Employment Insurance Act may apply for unemployment benefits in order to maintain one’s livelihood during a job search. For those who seek employment, employment consultants would evaluate their capabilities, competency, and individual requirements and experience. Consultants would also help job seekers understand the current trend of the job market, needs for improving their proficiencies or competency, and arrange employment improvement sessions or job training for them, hoping to have them subsequently reemployed. For various assisting services, please consult the public employment service institutions, or go tohttps://www.taiwanjobs.gov.tw. One may also call the free consultation line 0800-777-888. The operator will provide necessary information.
