National Skills Competition for the Disabled

The National physically and mentally disabled people skills competition operates in conjunction with international Abilympics which is held once every four years. It aims to inspire people with physical and mental disabilities to have confidence, perseverance, and courage, and stay out of the dark, and actively participate in all economic and productive groups to realize their potential for work and achieve the goal of self-actualization. Furthermore, this can encourage the public to value and approve the work abilities of physically and mentally disabled people and fully provide employment opportunities for them.

The national physically and mentally disabled people skills competition has been held in four sessions since 1995. To allow a wider space of skill learning for physically and mentally disabled people, it has been a biennial event since 1998.The number of vocational  categories has been increased from 8 in the 1st session to 27 in the current session. They are rattan, wood furniture, computer programming, web design, computer-aided mechanical drawing, software applications (word processing in English), database construction, pottery,painting (hand-painted silk), the basis of women's dress, men's dress, industrial electronics, inlaid jewelry,photography, poster design, editing, typesetting, cake decorating, computer assembly, flat wood carving,bicycle assembly (mechanical assembly),Western cooking, billboard design, advanced women’s dress, three-dimensional computer-aided drafting, computer operations, floral, and Chinese computer input.

The awarded bonus and medals for the top 3 players joining the national physically and mentally disabled people skills competition are the same for the top 3 players joining the national skills competition. The top 3 winning players who join the national physically and mentally disabled people skills competitions or international abilympics can participate in the Ministry of Education selection admission exam or review and be recommended for admissions to relevant university departments.

 

International Abilympics Vocational Skills Competition

International Abilympics Vocational Skills Competition is held once every four years. The first session was held in Japan in 1981, when our country selected and sent seven players to participate. After that, we grouped players to join the competition eight times in Hong Kong,1991, 3th International Abilympics; Australia,1995,4th International Abilympics; the Czech Republic, 2000,5th International Abilympics; India, 2003, 6th International Abilympics; Japan,2007,7th  International Abilympics; 2011,South Korea,8th International Abilympics, and 2016, France, 9th International Abilympics.

The 9th international Abilympics Vocational Skills Competition was held in Bordeaux, France (Bordèu) from 24th to 26th of March, 2016. 25 players were selected to participate in 25 vocational categories of competition from our country (among them, 10 were dismembered, 12 hearing impaired, one visually impaired, two other). Our country won 10 gold medals, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals, a special prize, which surpassed previous records with gold medals, ranking number two in groups.
