June is the time when new graduates leave school and face the challenges of the job market.  According to the “Employment Status Survey for Young Workers Aged 15-29” conducted by the Ministry of Labor, about 50% of first-time job seekers ran into difficulties when searching for jobs.  The main reasons are their lack of experience and not knowing which jobs are right for them.  In order to help young people prepare for the challenges of job-seeking, the Ministry of Labor has set up a “Career Assessment” page on the Taiwanjobs website, providing vocational aptitude tests such as “Work Style”, “Work Temperament” and “Things I like to Do – Vocational Interests Test”, allowing young people to find out their vocational interests before stepping into the job market.

According to the Ministry of Labor, staff that helps young people look for jobs notice that one of the biggest problems facing young people seeking jobs is that they don’t know what kind of job to look for.  When it comes to choosing the right job, personal interests, aptitudes and personalities should all be taken into consideration.   TaiwnJobs therefore provides three online vocational aptitude tests on its website.  Among them, the “Job Seekers TWS Work Style of Taiwan” test helps young people find out their most pronounced work style.  They then compare it for suitability to the overall work style of an occupation and see whether the scores of the jobs they are interested in suit their work style or have the same work style as theirs, in order for them to adjust their work style accordingly and stand a bigger chance of finding their ideal job or a suitable one.  In the meantime, they are encouraged to make the best use of Jobooks (work encyclopedia) available on “Taiwan Jobs” to search for the jobs that fit their strongest suit, or find their ideal job.

In addition, with the help of the “Work Temperament” test that includes seven types of work temperament: interpersonal efficacy, indecisiveness and hesitation, prudence and accuracy, preference for repetitive work or routine, perseverance in the face of difficulties, being able to work alone and following orders, first-time job seekers can learn more about their work temperament.  After analysis of the test results, job seekers will know more about the features of relevant professions and know whether or not they are qualified for certain positions.  In addition, “Things I like to do –Vocational Interests Test” allows job seekers to assess their potential, preferences, and adaptability in the workplace.

Young people who would like to know more about the test and its analysis can go to the website of “TaiwanJobs” (https://exam.taiwanjobs.gov.tw/) and go to the “Career Assessment” section to do the test. If they have further questions or would like to know more about the test results, they are welcome to consult with the staff at their nearest Ministry of Labor local employment service center or call our 24-hour toll-free hotline 0800-777-888 and let our trained staff help.
