In order to enhance long-term caretaking service and caretakers, the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor has issued an Award for Employment in the Caretaking Industry, which grants subsidies from NTD 5,000 to 7,000/mo and lasts for eighteen months, in order to encourage the unemployed to join the caretaking industry. It is a good choice for jobseekers.

Because she must take care of her ill brother, A-Fang, a housewife, felt the need for long-term care in the future would increase. So, she applied for a training session for caretakers. After she received the certificate, she served as nurse’s aide in a hospital. After working just over twenty days, she left the position due to the fact that she was unable to handle both job and family life at the same time.

Consequently, A-Fang went to the Pingtung Employment Centre to ask for help. Through consultation, the counselor realized that A-Fang was looking for a flexible job which enabled her to take care of her family. After being rejected by several offers for salesperson, the counselor discussed further with A-Fang, and considered her to be qualified as a caretaker and she possessed prior experience. After contemplating her employing need, the counselor recommended the position of resident care attendant, which offered flexible working hours and an award for caretaking industry employment. A-Fang, who has been employed for over eight months, implied she had adapted to the job of resident care attendant and family life.

The Workforce Development Agency indicated that there were 19,284 vacancies for caretakers registered in public employment institutions from January to July in 2019. The percentage had increased by 59.5% than that of 2018, which signified the large market for long-term care employment. To encourage the unemployed and enhance the workforce of caretakers, if the unemployed took caretaking positions offered by an employment center, and met certain requirements, one could receive a subsidy from NTD 5,000 to 7,000/mo, which lasts for eighteen months at the most. The highest subsidy is NTD 108,000. From January to July 2019, there have been 3123 individuals who became employed through such awards.
