To encourage employers offering job opportunities to unemployed workers, employers that hire mid-aged or senior persons, the disabled, or persons who are long-term unemployed referred by employment service institutions, will receive an hiring subsidy and award of up to NTD13000 per worker per month and a total amount of up to NTD156000 from the Workforce Development Agency.

Wei, aged 55, left the job market to take care of her family after getting married. Because of financial reasons, she re-entered the job market. At first, she worked as a food packing factory worker and a cleaner.  But as she ages, cleaning that requires her to move or carry heavy pieces often starts to take a toll on her body.  She had no choice but to quit.  The staff of the employment service station, after getting to know her employment history, started to work on her interview skills to boost her confidence and recommend jobs that best suit her personality and strengths. Additionally, with the hiring subsidy and award provided to employers for hiring specific types of workers, Wei is hired as a warehouse specialist assistant and has been working for two months.

During the interview, the section chiefs could tell Wei had a willingness to learn, had a good and strong work ethic and was flexible when dealing with people. They thus decided to hire her. This gesture made by the employer shows he /she supports the hiring subsidy and award policy promoted by the MOL. In addition to receiving hiring subsidy and award, employers could employ suitable and stable middle-aged & senior employees via the referrals by the employment service stations, in addition to the benefits of reducing the pressure and costs of recruiting people.

According to the Workforce Development Agency, mid-aged or senior workers are more experienced, highly stable and flexible when dealing with people. However their job opportunities are often limited because of their physical conditions. With the hiring subsidy and award policy, employers get to better know the advantages of hiring middle-aged and senior workers. Which increase the employment of mid-aged and senior person and also help recruit competent employees.
